How It Works

  1. Shop: Browse our selection of zero waste solutions and select the one that fits your needs.
  2. Collect: Fill your zero waste solution with the trash you'd would like to recycle.
  3. Ship & Recycle: When filled, send your zero waste solution back to us using the attached prepaid shipping label and we'll #RecycleEverything! - Yup, even the solution and liner!

Important Shipping Information

For the Zero Waste Box system to work effectively and safely, please follow these simple shipping guidelines on how and what you can ship back to TerraCycle:

  1. When will my order arrive? Orders are typically shipped out 2-3 business days after the order is placed. All orders ship via UPS and can take 1-6 business days to arrive. Please note: during a sale period, these times may vary; expect possible delays with your order being fulfilled.
  2. Only send in items this system accepts. Sending in items that fall outside the selected category causes contamination and the need for added separation, which increases costs.
  3. Do not send in household items that may be considered hazardous waste. These include items such as lithium-ion batteries, pressurized canisters, pesticides, medical sharps, organics, broken glass, biomedical waste, soiled diapers, or expired medication. Do not send in anything sharp, flammable, reactive, corrosive, ignitable, radioactive, toxic, infectious, or pathogenic.
  4. Do not ship dripping packages.

What happens to my waste?

When a shipment from a collector arrives at the processing facility, we scan it to record the shipment information, date and weight.

The paint is then inspected and separated based on water-based and oil-based paints. Cans that contain fully dried paint have the paint removed so that the cans can be smelted into metal sheeting, ingots, or bar stock. Wet paint is separated by color and filtered to ensure there are no objects mixed within the paint. Filtered paint is then poured into a mixer to ensure all paint is thoroughly mixed.

Once mixed, the paint goes through a series of filtration processes to remove small clumps. Smooth and refined paint is tested and treated with additives to bring the paint into spec before it’s tinted for final color selection, packaged and prepared for resell.
