Since 1996 NLR has operated a facility in Johnson City, Tennessee, for the commercial recycling of mercury-containing lamps (fluorescent, metal halide, high pressure sodium, etc.) and other hazardous post-consumer products. NLR now operates four facilities in Tennessee, one in Kennesaw, GA, and Burlington, NC, which are integrally engaged in such recycling operations.

NLR accepts and manages only materials for which legitimate recycling technologies and markets exist, and is helping in the development of these technologies and markets. NLR maintains records of each shipment of recyclable materials that are received, processed, and sent off-site, and can readily "track" a customer's recyclables via a unique Bill of Lading number.

NLR is committed to protecting its customers from the liabilities of potentially improper management of the recyclable materials it handles, and its employees from the physical and chemical hazards that may be associated with such materials. It is NLR's goal to maintain an excellent working relationship with the Tennessee Division of Solid Waste Management and other environmental regulatory agencies with jurisdiction - their guidance is welcome and their assistance is frequently sought. To protect its employees and its neighbors, NLR has developed and implements a Health and Safety Plan and a Contingency Plan.

Picture No.1 of Veolia ES Technical Solutions – Stoughton, MA facility

Located in West Bridgewater, MA, Veolia Environmental Services (VES) is a strategically focused recovery and waste management facility, which provides a variety of waste reduction and recycling services.

The Vapor Collection System is designed to control mercury vapor and dust emissions from the process. The system draws mercury vapor and dust from the process equipment into the bag house. The filter arrangement is designed to trap 99.99% of air-borne particles measuring 0.5 microns or larger. Dust accumulates in containers located underneath the bag house. The air stream leaving the bag house then passes through a sulfur-impregnated carbon vessel to further remove mercury vapors. Each stack is monitored using a real-time mercury vapor-monitoring instrument in accordance with facility’s specific operating permit/plan. A portable Jerome mercury vapor analyzer is used to monitor mercury vapor concentrations in the air throughout the workplace, on a daily basis.

The Veolia Tallahassee, Florida facility is located in the northwest corner of a 27-acre industrial park and is part of the Electronics Recycling Group. The building has 10,000 square feet processing and office space. The building is used to receive and process samples for recycling. There are separate rooms maintained under negative pressure for lamp disassembly and distillation.

Veolia has the ability to recycle fluorescent and High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps using a sophisticated and proven technology with a 17-year operating history. Veolia has the ability to provide complete on-site distillation that eliminates both the need for hazardous waste storage and the shipment of hazardous waste from the facility. This facility is able to extract over 99% of the mercury from a lamp, and the recovered mercury is also over 99% pure.

Veolia is licensed as a hazardous waste recycler since the facility does not ship hazardous waste lamp components off-site.
